A semi pulling a trailer tipped and spilled corn Wednesday morning, causing more than $5,000 in damage.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Kale Michel, 19, 7560 46th St. SE, was driving a 1989 Peterbilt semi north on the U.S. Highway 52 bypass around 10:30 a.m. The patrol said the brakes failed and Michel was driving too fast to make a left-hand turn onto County Road 40.
Both the semi and the trailer began to flip, but the fifth-wheel plate (which connects the semi to the trailer) broke, said Sgt. Joshua Rude. The semi landed on its wheels, while the trailer spilled its load.
No one was injured, he said, and the corn was recovered.
Michel was wearing a seat belt. He was cited for care required.
