Update: Man arrested in standoff in northwest Jamestown

JAMESTOWN — The James Valley Special Operations team apprehended a man in a standoff at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, in northwest Jamestown.

The man was arrested in front of an apartment building at 119 5th St. NW where he reportedly had a gun and a knife.

Jamestown Chief of Police Scott Edinger told media earlier that a woman fled the residence but added that details of the incident are not clear at this time. The man was barricaded inside and claimed to have a gun and knife. Law enforcement went to the scene at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The building the man was in was evacuated along with a day care across the street, according to Edinger.

2:40 p.m.: Standoff involving man continues

A standoff involving a man continues at an apartment building in Jamestown as of 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.

Jamestown Police Department and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office personnel are at the scene at 119 5th St. NW where a man is reportedly armed with a gun and a knife.

Jamestown Chief of Police Scott Edinger told media that a woman fled the residence but added that details of the incident are not clear at this time. He said the man was barricaded inside and claimed to have a gun and knife. Law enforcement went to the scene at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The building the man is in was evacuated along with a day care across the street, according to Edinger.

Fifth Street Northwest continues to be blocked to traffic from First Avenue to Third Avenue Northwest. Edinger said people should stay away from the area.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has been assisting with traffic control.
