The editor of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, Kathy Davison, has been named this year's recipient of the Larry Rowen Remele Award by the Northern Great Plains History Conference Council.
She was selected for her outstanding work over the years as a member of the NGPH Conference Council and as a program coordinator for the annual conference.
Davison was honored during the 46th Annual Northern Great Plains History Conference annual banquet last month at the Mankato City Center Hotel in Mankato, Minn.
More than 300 historians and students of history nationwide and several Canadian provinces attended the conference.
The award was established to honor the memory of Larry Remele, longtime editor of North Dakota History, the quarterly journal of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Remele was serving as the NGPH Conference Council chair at the time of his death in June 1988 at the age of 43. As a founder of the council, a program coordinator and conference promoter, he contributed significantly to the development and growth of the conference. The award has been given annually since 1989, when its first recipient was D. Jerome Tweton, then-professor of history at the University of North Dakota.

Davison has served as editor of North Dakota History and the State Historical Society of North Dakota since Oct. 1, 2003. She has been employed with the state's history agency since February 1999, first as publications assistant and then as assistant editor before becoming editor. She previously worked at the North American Coal Corporation in Bismarck, responsible for the preparation and review process for local, state and federal environmental and land-use permits and approvals. A native of Alsen, N.D. Davison holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from the University of North Dakota, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota School of Law.
Next year's conference will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Fargo Sept. 26-29, hosted by North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College.
