MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A St. John woman has been sentenced in federal court to a year of probation for stealing from a group of Indian Health Service employees.

A news release from the office of the U.S. Attorney for North Dakota said 36-year-old Jessica McGillis was sentenced Monday in Minot by U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland. McGillis had faced up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Authorities have said McGillis served as the treasurer of the Belcourt Hospital Employees Recreational Association in 2008 and took money for personal use. She pleaded guilty to larceny in April.
