MINOT (AP) -- The start of the North Dakota State Fair is being accompanied by hot weather.
Highs could surpass 100 degrees in western North Dakota during the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
"All of the things we can control are going well," fair manager Bob Wagoner said. "Things we can't control, like the weather, are things we keep our eye on, as it's a natural concern for a major outdoor event."
Wagoner said there are plenty of places for fairgoers to cool off.
"Fortunately, the fairgrounds have shaded areas, including trees, and all the major buildings are air-conditioned," he said.

There also are plenty of vendors that sell refreshments. "I am sure they're smiling from ear-to-ear right now," Wagoner said.
The fair began Friday. The State Fair Parade was to get under way at 9:15 a.m. Saturday on the corner of Broadway and Burdick Expressway, and run to the fairgrounds.
The fair goes through July 28.
