MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A rural water project this summer being funded largely with federal dollars should mean the end of water supply problems in Surrey.
The project involves an 8-inch water line that will serve Minot's industrial park and North Prairie Rural Water District's customers east of Minot, including Surrey.
As Minot has grown, the demands on the original 4-inch service line built in 1978 have proven to be too much. The line and upgrades to water booster stations will better accommodate the needs in the area.
Surrey residents often nearly drain their reserves in the summer when water demands are greatest. Mayor Steve Fennewald says the city is forced to ration as a result, but the new water line will solve that.
The project is going through environmental review. Construction is expected to start in July and finish in August.
