Thieves steal more than $19,000 worth of jewelry from Jamestown jeweler Sunday

A pair of thieves made off with more than $19,000 worth of jewelry after a Sunday burglary at Riddle's Jewelry in the Buffalo Mall, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

When the store opened, one man distracted the clerk, while another crawled through a gap in the store's display to open a case and steal four ring sets, said Detective Scott Edinger of the Jamestown Police Department.

In total the thief was in and out of the store in about a minute, Edinger said.

"We believe this is the same group that hit a jewelry store in Bismarck on the 17th of September," he said.

Security footage of the Bismarck job shows three men, while footage in Jamestown shows only two, Edinger said.

He described the thieves as two black males, one about 6 feet tall weighing about 300 pounds with short black hair; the other is shorter and thinner with a shaved or bald head.

A white gold, "princess cut" wedding set with two rings totaling three-fourth karats worth $8,570 was taken along with another white gold "princess cut" with 1 1/2 karats worth $4,570. The report also listed unknown wedding sets, likely white gold, worth $6,000 as missing.

The Jamestown Police Department sent fingerprints and DNA samples to the state crime lab, Edinger said.

The case remains under investigation.
