U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., announced two federal grants totaling $140,000 will be given to South Central Dakota Regional Council and the Tri-County Regional Development Council.
Information provided by Heitkamp's office said the South Central Dakota Regional Council and the Tri-County Regional Development Council in Williston will each receive $70,000. The funds are made available from the Economic Development Administration.
Brenda Moritz, South Central Dakota Regional Council interim executive director, said the Regional Council is in the middle of a three-year grant from the Economic Development Administration to receive this grant funding. She said the EDA increased the amount to $70,000 for 2017 after EDA officials learned that the grant is used to cover each Regional Council’s operating expenses.
Heitkamp said funding for the EDA would be eliminated under President Donald Trump’s proposed 2018 budget. She said EDA helps communities establish economic development strategies.
