VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) -- Incumbent mayors in North Dakota's largest city and its capital city easily cruised to re-election, but the sitting mayor in Valley City was unseated.
Incumbent Mayor Mary Lee Nielson was defeated by former Valley City commissioner Bob Werkhoven. He had 832 votes to Nielson's 730.
Nielson was mayor during spring flooding problems in 2009.
Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker (WAW'-luh-kur) cruised to victory Tuesday over three other challengers. In the capital of Bismarck, Mayor John Warford also won re-election handily over a city commissioner.
