VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) -- Residents of Valley City have voted to keep their city administrator position.
Unofficial results from Tuesday's vote show 1,050 in favor of keeping the position and 888 opposed. That is 54 percent in favor.
Mayor Bob Werkhoven tells KOVC radio that he's pleased with the result and hopes the city that has experience political turmoil this year can move forward and start healing.
Current City Administrator Jon Cameron clashed with the city's police chief, and for a time considered the open city manager position in Sturgis, S.D. Werkhoven and City Commissioner Ken Evenson are targets of a recall petition.
The man who spearheaded the effort to eliminate the city administrator position says he's impressed with the high voter turnout. Brian Mindt says his group will try again in two years.
