Water back on in N.D. town of Michigan

MICHIGAN, N.D. (AP) -- Water is flowing again for residents in the northeast North Dakota town of Michigan, but officials are still trying to fix a problem that has crippled the town's sewer system.

MICHIGAN, N.D. (AP) -- Water is flowing again for residents in the northeast North Dakota town of Michigan, but officials are still trying to fix a problem that has crippled the town's sewer system.

The water woes began a week ago after the sewer lift station was inundated by more than 4 inches of rain during two thunderstorms, causing ground water to infiltrate the sewer lines and leading to the water service disruptions.

The water was turned back on early Monday, but work continues to fix the sewer problem in the town of 345 people between Grand Forks and Devils Lake.

Mayor Allen Orwick says officials first thought the heavy rain caused the water issues, but it now seems the precipitation added to an underlying mechanical problem.
