WHAT WE THINK--Fair has something for all ages to enjoy

The 4-H show is on Wednesday and the South Central Junior Beef Classic is on Thursday. Don't miss the Stock Car Classic on Saturday and the Go Kart races on Sunday.

The James River Rodeo is at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. While you're there, check out Austin Visser, 17, and John Pfaff, 18, who will also compete at the National High School Rodeo in Springfield, Ill., starting July 27.

And if horses aren't your thing, carnival rides begin Wednesday and last through the fair.

There is free entertainment each night, too. Check out the Bryce Neimiller Project on Wednesday, the Johnny Holm Band Thursday, Gwen Sebastian Friday, Icebreaker and Questions on Comments play Saturday, and the Roosters play on Sunday.

Residents' hard work -- whether in 4-H or Home and Hobby -- is an important traditional part of the fair. Consider the Home and Hobby exhibits carrying everything from flowers to vegetables to crafts and photography. 4-H members are also hard at work with various livestock shows, llama, dog, rabbit and poultry shows, and clothing reviews and living exhibits. Who can't learn something from the creativity and hard work right here at home?

Enjoy what's here in Stutsman County at the annual fair. There are so many ways to do so. Bake a pie. Show a cow. Buy a five-day pass and ride every ride on the fairgrounds every day.

Children: run free amongst the rides and the rodeo.

Adults: grab a beverage and soak in the summer weather.

County fairs promise a good time. This one shouldn't disappoint.
