MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- With Rondell White still hampered by a torn calf muscle, the Minnesota Twins announced plans on Wednesday to recall first baseman Garret Jones from Triple-A Rochester.
Looking for a little more pop in the lineup, the Twins say they will bring up Jones before Thursday night's game against the Oakland Athletics.
White has missed all but three games this season after tearing his calf muscle while skipping out of the dugout. The Twins hoped he could return to action after the All-Star break, but White had a setback during rehab and will need more time.
The Twins sorely need a heavy bat in the lineup, especially at DH. The team's designated hitters have combined to hit just two home runs this season.
Jones has shown the ability to drive the ball at Triple-A. He is hitting .295 with 29 doubles, 11 homers and 58 RBIs in 83 games for the Red Wings this season. He saw some spot duty with the Twins earlier this season. Jones is 1-for-8 in four appearances with the Twins this season.
