The Jamestown Chapter of the United Sportsmen of North Dakota recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships, to Marie Wold and Grace Mulcahy.
The scholarships are awarded to applicants who have completed at least one year of study at a North Dakota college or university, be pursuing a course of study in the biological sciences or related field and have completed a hunter safety program. Applicants are not judged solely on academic standing.
Wold, of Vattleview, North Dakota, received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from North Dakota State University and is pursing a registered nurse degree in nursing at Williston State College with plans to graduate in 2022. She is a hunter and participates in trap shooting and archery tournaments. Wold has served as a volunteer EMT for 15 years, is a CPR and first aid instructor and the squad training officer for the Powers Lake Ambulance Service along with being involved in the family farming operation.
Mulcahy, of Barnesville, Minnesota, will be starting her third year of study at the University of Jamestown and is pursuing a degree in nursing. She leads an active outdoor life including hunting deer, pheasants and coyotes and does predator trapping. She has worked as a child care provider at St. John's Academy, Make a Wish Foundation, community education coach, Feed My Starving Children and Sanford Health. She is a member of the Nursing Students Association, Jimmie Janes and Samaritan's Feet.
This is the seventh year that the Jamestown Chapter has appropriated funds for scholarships and the membership has approved continuing the program. The chapter is dedicated to supporting young adults and also noted community support has been key in its 34 years for its annual fundraising banquet.
