PIERRE, S.D. — Five more South Dakota residents have died of COVID-19, bringing the total to 223 people in the state who have lost their lives due to the illness since March.
The deaths were reported to the South Dakota Department of Health on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Three of the deaths were of people in the 80 and older age range; the other person was in their 70s.
A total of 21,997 positive cases have been reported in the state, of which 3,684 are active and able to infect others as of Tuesday. Recoveries reached 18,090 on Tuesday.
Currently there are 211 South Dakota residents hospitalized with COVID-19.
