North Dakota man charged for intentional 113 mph crash on I-29

FARGO — A 62-year-old West Fargo man is suspected of intentionally crashing his vehicle into an unoccupied vehicle parked on the shoulder of Interstate 29 while going about 113 mph in early August.

John P. Milligan faces a felony charge of reckless endangerment in Cass County District Court.

According to court documents:

Milligan attempted suicide on Aug. 2 by driving his vehicle into the parked vehicle on I-29 at about 113 mph.

A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper requested the charge after investigating the crash and learning from Milligan, who was hospitalized after the crash, that Milligan drove by the abandoned vehicle twice beforehand to make sure it was empty.

The trooper also said in the report that given the traffic on I-29 at the time of the crash, about 6:34 p.m., there was great potential for more than just Milligan to be injured or killed by his action, according to court documents.
