The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and buffalo chips this week:
* Bravo to Spc. Ryan Lindberg, a Jamestown native, who took second place at the national level in the Army's Best Warrior Competition last week at Fort Lee, Va. Lindberg is a combat engineer in the 817th Engineer Company (Sapper) and the only soldier representing the Army National Guard of the Soldier of the Year portion of the contest. We congratulate him on his accomplishment.
* Bravo to Tiffany Olson and Mikeala Cofield, two Jamestown Girl Scouts who are taking used dolls, cleaning them up and giving them to families in need for Christmas gifts this year. The Scouts are doing the project as a part of earning their Silver Awards.
* Bravo to Prairie Paws Rescue for taking in 19 dachshunds rescued from an animal hoarder and to all the people providing foster homes to these dogs as they recover from illnesses and are prepared for permanent homes and families.
* Buffalo chip to people who deliberately make illegal left turns at the Third Street Southeast railroad crossing. Jamestown's quiet zone is in danger of never happening because of those drivers ignoring road signs and making turns at the wrong place. All they need to do is drive 50 more feet and make a U-turn.

* Buffalo chip to the news that an angler caught a silver carp on the James River near LaMoure, N.D. Silver carp is an invasive species that damages fish habitat and is known for jumping into the air in front of boaters and skiers.
* Bravo to the Rev. Darrell Losing for his 25 years of service at Jamestown's First Assembly of God Church and 43 years in the ministry. Losing gave his final sermon Oct. 9 at the church and is retiring.
