The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and a buffalo chip this week:

* Bravo to Wes Anderson, curator at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum, for putting old home movies on YouTube.com. Anderson has placed mainly home movies from the 1950s including the North Dakota Winter Show, a parade for Peggy Lee and others. It's a great way to preserve history on film and by placing it on YouTube.com, he's given unlimited audiences access to history at no charge.

* Bravo to those businesses, organizations and individuals who are helping the George and Julie Beerbower family have a home to live in that's in better condition than their current home. The couple who moved to Edmunds, N.D., have since become ill and have four adopted daughters with them. Now, three companies -- Pioneer Painting & Decorating, Kitchen Solvers and Vetter Construction -- are doing renovations to the home with additional help from others.

* Buffalo chip to all three national television networks for interrupting their regular broadcast schedule to carry Tiger Woods' well-choreographed apology for his indiscretions live, uninterrupted and in full.

* Bravo to Ellen Pfeiffer of Jamestown, who has worked for more than six years to remember Native American children who once lived and died at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania. Pfeiffer has made almost 200 quilts to honor the children.

* Bravo to the North Dakota Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators for holding College Goal Sunday in 11 sites around the state on Feb. 21. College Goal Sunday, offered at no cost to residents, provides information and assistance for students and parents to file for financial aid to attend college. We hope the program can expand in the future to offer it in our area.

* Bravo to cities, government officials and residents who are making early preparations to prepare for the possibility of flooding this spring. It's still too early to say it will occur but being proactive will help people and communities be prepared.

* Bravo to Ken Schulz, Jamestown City Council member, for continuing to push for strategic planning. Schulz has long supported the need for the city to strategic plan. The council is supporting the process and suggested using an outside facilitator rather than Schulz, who volunteered for the job. It's good to see the council support strategic planning as well.
