Commentary: Heitkamp’s opposition to Trump’s farmer aid package must not have been polling well
Senator Heidi Heitkamp has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration’s aid to farmers impacted by tariffs resulting from his on-going efforts to improve America’s trade position in the global markets. “At the end of the day, farmers don’t want a check, they want a market,” she is on the record as saying.
Heitkamp’s allies at the North Dakota Farmer’s Union have also kept up the criticism.
Maybe Heitkamp’s position opposing aid isn’t polling so well for her re-election campaign, because today she just announced legislation to redistribute any federal revenue from new tariffs to farmers.
