What We Think: Bravo to JHS team for LifeSmarts win

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:

*Bravo to Matt Young, a University of Jamestown athlete who broke the UJ men’s indoor 5,000 meters record Feb. 9 at the St. Thomas Showcase, St. Paul, Minn. Young placed ninth with a new school mark of 15 minutes, 10:10 seconds. The previous record was 15:12.08, set by Allen Wood in 2006.

*Bravo to the Jamestown Team No. 1 LifeSmarts team, which took the state title this week in Bismarck. The team, made up of Julia Shirley, Cris Dupre, Jessica Schmitz, Courtnay Kieker and Kalen Christensen, will represent North Dakota at the LifeSmarts National Championships in April.

*Bravo to the University of Jamestown for holding a fundraiser to help the baby daughter of a Valley City State University coach. Lily Montgomery, 4-month-old daughter of men’s basketball coach Ryan Montgomery and his wife, Trista, has been put on a transplant list for a new heart. UJ sold “Love 4 Lily” bracelets in support of the baby during a Feb. 9 doubleheader against University of Bellevue.

*Bravo to the athletes competing in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
