Bravo to donors to shoe drive

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:

  • Bravo to Tiger Woods, who won the Masters championship on Aug. 14 in Augusta, Ga. It was his first Masters championship win since 2005.
  • Bravo to Mayville (N.D.) State University, which had a record enrollment of 1,078 students for the spring semester, the most since the university was founded in 1889. The number was a 13.4 percent increase from 2014.
  • Bravo to those people who have contributed shoes to the Jamestown Dollars for Scholars Shoe Drive. The drive is collecting pairs of shoes to raise money for scholarships for students. About 3,150 pairs of shoes have been collected, with a goal of getting 7,500 pairs of shoes. The shoes will be donated to developing nations, and Dollars for Scholars will be paid for each pound of shoes collected. That makes it a win-win for those needing shoes and for providing student scholarships locally. There are 29 drop-off sites throughout Jamestown, and shoes will be collected through May 4.
  • Bravo to volleyball players Courtney Peterson of Jamestown High School and Kadyn Mehring of Carrington High School, who were named to the 2019 North Dakota High School Coaches Association/Optimists All-Star Teams. Peterson will play on the West team; Mehring on the East in June.
