The Jamestown hands out these bravos this week:

  • Bravo to organizers of the HOPE Dinner and Auction, which is celebrating 30 years this year. The annual fundraiser, scheduled Oct. 3, is held to offset the costs for students to attend the Catholic elementary school, raising at least $2 million since it began, the school principal said.
  • Bravo to Washington Elementary School finding a way to hold the music teacher’s annual Constitution Day celebration. The brief program which honors the signing of the Constitution was held outside, with proper social distancing, on Ernie Gates Football Field rather than inside the school in the gym where social distancing could not be maintained. The event gave students from the school a chance to be in one location - safely - for a short time.
  • Bravo to the James River Water Trail in Jamestown. A collaboration between Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department and Jamestown Tourism, the trail offers canoe and kayak enthusiasts places to enter and exit the river while enjoying their sport.

Editorials are the opinion of Jamestown Sun management and the newspaper’s editorial board.
