I had the pleasure of being part of Jamestown’s The Arts Center Downtown Arts Market on Thursday, July 18.
Having grown up in Marion, Jamestown seemed like a larger hometown. My wife, Becky Baertsch, also from Marion, and I attended movies in the Starr Theatre, which has now become the Arts Center. Many friends, acquaintances and relatives attended the Arts Park program, some to say hello again but also to attend the program of singer, songwriter Jessie Veeder and hear an opening performance of cowboy poetry and song by Shadd Piehl of Mandan.
The weather was beautiful, the vendors were interesting, the entire event was very rewarding for me as a participant and spectator.
The Arts Park event each Thursday is just one of the amazing events the Arts Center produces. Jamestown I’m sure is proud of their community commitment and hopefully aware that the Arts Center is one of the finest, most ambitious small city institutions to be found anywhere.
Mindi Schmitz, Sally Jeppson and Angela Martini are to be complimented and let’s not forget Taylor Barnes, the lady who got the whole thing started (with the help of the North Dakota Council on the Arts).
