Barend H. Kroeze, Jamestown College president (1909–1946) is credited with saving the college from closing. A number of buildings, still in use on today’s campus, bear the names of donors during his presidency. A dormitory, added in the 1950s, has his name.
In later years Kroeze described his experience at the college in "A Prairie Saga." The book was often been referred to as “A Soggy Prairie.”
Judging by the amount of rain that fell during University of Jamestown homecoming last weekend, with a football game resembling mud wrestling, maybe the weekend theme should have been “a soggy prairie” after all.
