Jamestown Sun journalists thanked for essential work in community

The newspaper did miss one critical element – equally as essential to our community is vetted, accurate and localized information.

JSSP Letter to Editor

By Mike Delfs, president and CEO, Jamestown Regional Medical Center

The Jamestown Sun’s 2021 Progress Edition is dear to us at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Thank you for sharing the stories of our legendary teams including doctors, nurses and environmental services. We are proud of these employees and grateful for the “essential” designation.

This year’s theme “Essential to Jamestown” is of special interest in 2021, during our pandemic. Health care, law enforcement, public health, nursing homes, grocery stores and our Anne Carlsen Center are essential in 2021 and in every year before and after.

The newspaper did miss one critical element – equally as essential to our community is vetted, accurate and localized information. Whether it is climate, crime or COVID-19, we, the people of this region, count on verified information from sources we can trust.

Journalism is essential. It provides vetted information to help us understand what is going on and how it impacts us. Local journalism provides citizens with the information they need to make decisions about their lives, communities and their governments. This is important every year and especially important in this most recent one.

We are grateful for local journalists.

Thank you for the essential work you do this year and every year.

Delf resides in Jamestown.
