Siren sounds Thursday in malfunction

A malfunction during planned maintenance of the Jamestown emergency siren system prompted a lot calls to the Stutsman County Communications Center Thursday afternoon.

"There was no emergency," said Jerry Bergquist, Stutsman County emergency manager and 911 coordinator. "Something occurred that wasn't expected."

Bergquist said the maintenance work was being done outside the dispatch center and he wasn't sure how many of the sirens sounded or for how long. He did say that sirens prompted multiple calls to the dispatch center and area media outlets.

"We are continuing to investigate," he said.
