Jamestown High School swept the Hi-Liner Invitational on Tuesday in Valley City, collecting five first-place finishes in the process.

Jordan Thoreson won the shot put and John Nagel took the long jump as the JHS boys scored 94.5 points, 12.5 better than runner-up Central Cass in the 22-team meet.

Nagel won the long jump (19-1), was third in the 200 (24.06) and fourth in the triple jump (38-6).

Thoreson and teammate Nate Willer gave the Jays a 1-3 finish in the shot. Thoreson bested the field with a heave of 48-7.50, while Willer went 41-9.50.

The Blue Jays also had good showings in the distance events.

Phillip Manley was second in the mile and Jacob Nieland was third. Nieland was also second in the 800.

Carrington's Easton Page took top honors in the 3200 (10:46.68). He was followed across by Jamestown's Cory Goehner and Manley.

Matt Kopp was fourth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100.

Barnes County North had three first-place finishes in the meet. Two of them belonged to Cody Christ, who blitzed the field in both the 800 (2:07.93) and mile (4:39.81).

Brad Clemens had the best high jump of the meet, clearing 5-10 for first. Carrington's Scott Burnham was second.

South Border's Justin Deede brought home a first and third, winning the low hurdles in a time of 44.38. He was third in the 100 hurdles (17.75).

In the 400, Zach Six of Kidder County edged Central Cass's Kenny Toah, 54.28 to 54.41.

Alison Allmer had another strong day running for the Blue Jays.

The sophomore standout took both the 800 (2:26.88) and mile (5:26.02) as the JHS girls piled up 108 points to finish 29 clear of runner-up Napoleon (79). Allmer won the 800 by eight seconds and the 1600 by nearly 15.

McKayla Orr had a first and second for the Blue Jays, winning the triple jump (15-11/25) over Barnes County North's SaraLi Petersen (14-10.50).

Orr was second to Napoleon's Shenille Laber in the triple jump. Laber went 34-6.50, while Orr posted a 33-8.

Laber and teammate Rikki Schmidt combined for five blue ribbons for the Imperials.

Laber also was the top high-jumper, clearing 4-11 to win. Petersen of BCN was again second.

Schmidt, meanwhile, was unbeatable in the sprints. She swept the 100 (12.62), 200 (26.15) and 400 (59.05). Central Prairie's Courtney Heupel was second in the 400.

Along with her two seconds, Petersen also added a first, taking the 300 hurdles in a time of 17.72 for Barnes County North.

Carrington placed sixth with 40 points topped by Ann Endres, who won the 3200 in a time of 12:48.44.

Griggs County Central had three of the top six scores in the shot put as Katie Hanson won it and Shalene Helmer (35-8) was second. Jamestown's Kelsey Urquhart (32-0) was fourth.
