If a season can be started perfectly, the Jimmie baseball team may have accomplished it Sunday night at the Metrodome.
Leadoff man Joe Perez whacked the first pitch of the season into the left-field bleachers to get the Jimmies off and rolling to a sweep of Minnesota-Crookston.
After Perez gave the Jimmies an early lead, senior right-hander Wes Hardy took over from there and fired six shutout innings.
"I felt like we executed on offense and played great defense and when you do that you have a chance to win a lot of games," JC head coach Tom Hager said. "Obviously with what Joe did in the first at bat of the season and with the way Wes pitched it really got us off on the right foot. It was a good night.

Hardy was light's out over six clean frames, allowing just four hits along the way. He also struck out four batters.
"Wes pitched in a lot of big games for us at the end of last season and it was really encouraging to see him throw the baseball the way he did tonight," Hager said.
The Jimmies scored in four of their seven at bats. Perez's shot the highlight.
"I thought that really energized us," Hager said of Perez's long ball. "That's a great way to start off a season."
Rudy Strnad, Kyle Mallory and Perry Wilkinson each added two hits as the Jimmies piled up 11 total.

The Jimmies did all their damage early in Game 2.
Already up 2-0 after one, they hung a 6-spot on the board in the bottom of the sixth and rolled from there.
Strnad delivered a 2-run double in the 6-run second, plating Jakob Ohman and Matt Achter. Later, Jonathan Minchella followed with another 2-run double, bringing in Mallory and Derek Wallace.
Achter, a freshman from Fargo, had two of the Jimmies' six hits. Max Boe had sac-fly RBI.
Ben Watkins started on the mound and worked into the fifth before Blake Stewart took over and was credited with the win.
"We're going to continue to experiment with our staff and lineup, but today was a good day," Hager said.
The Jimmies play two more today at the Metrodome, this time against Olivet Nazarene.
