FARGO—Bismarck Century captured the three-peat in North Dakota Class A volleyball Saturday night at the Fargodome.

The Patriots' 6-foot-4 sophomore middle hitter Lauren Ware scored six of the first nine points of a deciding fifth set against Jamestown High School via kill. Century stormed out to an 11-2 lead and defeated the Blue Jays 3-2, 15-10 in the fifth.

"We knew that we had to come out with a lot of momentum and I think all my teammates helped out with that," said Ware, who finished with a match-high 27 kills. "Our energy was so high. I'm speechless."

Jamestown High School's Megan Gaffaney was honored as the Class A senior athlete of the year. The Blue Jays' Hannah Schiele and Courtney Peterson were named to the all-tournament team, along with Gaffaney.

The Blue Jays were trying to overcome a 2-0 match deficit for a second straight night after defeating Mandan 3-2 in Friday's semifinals. McKayla Kurtz led Jamestown with 15 kills against the Patriots.

Jamestown was in search of a second state title in five seasons. The Blue Jays defeated Century in five sets for a state championship in 2013, when Gaffaney and fellow seniors Schiele, Kurtz, Olivia Nihill, Alyssa Ukestad and Jordan Paulson were eighth-graders.

"We competed hard," Gaffaney said. "It was a fun game and I'm glad we were here. We never gave up."

The full story of Saturday's championship match will be in Monday's print edition of The Jamestown Sun.
