Jimmie softball tops poll

University of Jamestown Jimmie softball has been selected to win the North Star Athletic Association title this spring.

Conference coaches voted the Jimmies first it their annual preseason poll released Tuesday. Jamestown received all eight first-place votes from the remaining eight NSAA teams for 80 total points.

Bellevue (Neb.) received the other first-place vote and rank second in the poll. Jamestown defeated Bellevue 2-1 in last year's NSAA tournament championship game and advanced to the opening round of the NAIA national tournament. The Jimmies played to a record of 41-21 in 2017.

Jacob Cline is the current boys basketball coach at Strasburg-Zeeland.

It was reported in Wednesday's A7 story "Clippers, Thunder victorious at the Civic Center" that longtime S-Z boys coach Brent Kleinsasser was still at the helm. Kleinsasser, however, said in an email to the Sun he retired at the beginning of the month.
