"Overall I'm happy with how we played," said softball coach Kevin Gall. "We learned a lot about our team and I think we can have a nice season. There's also some talent sitting on the bench that will help us."

The Jimmies were led by Brittany Rheault's pitching performance in game 1. The senior right-hander nearly pitched a five-hit complete game shutout, but Ann-Marie Crandlemire recorded the final out.

"She was battling today, after things didn't go how she wanted yesterday," Gall said, referring to her 1.1 innings pitched, four runs and four hits stat line the previous day. "As expected she took the ball in the first game and got after them. We played good defense behind her too."

Kassi Ward opened the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning that scored Mikayla Frost. In the fourth, Kaitlyn Sassaman hit a two-RBI single to left field and Emma Keller hit in Sassaman later in the frame for the final run of the ball game.

In game 2, Jamestown used a three-run fourth inning to double up its lead at 4-2, but Ottawa scored two unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh for the comeback victory.

The Spirit took advantage of a dropped fly ball error by Emma Keller and a misplayed grounder by Katie Reisdorfer to score the two runs in the sixth. Pitcher Kat Miska had a throwing error in the seventh for the go-ahead run. Ottawa got its fifth victory of the season in 32 tries.

"There were errors we even didn't get charged for," Gall admitted. "We let them score some runs and that's fine but we better score more runs if we're going to do that."

The Jimmies will play their first home games of the campaign on March 24 with a doubleheader against Bellevue University-weather permitting.

"I'm going to get our field ready as soon as possible," Gall said. "We'll have to see if the weather cooperates."
