After the Jamestown High School boys cross country team came six points shy of winning the Aberdeen Invitation on Sept. 6, the team made it a priority to win its next race.

Saturday afternoon at Devils Lake Grahams Island Cross Country Invitational it finally happened.

The Blue Jays placed five runners in the top 10 as they cruised to a 49 point victory over hosting Devils Lake in the nine-team field.

"That was one of the goals we had after the last meet," said Jamestown coach Ken Gardner. "One of our top-five runners also had a wedding, so the guys in the 6-7 range filled in."

Chandlar Rott, Ben Anteau and Gavin Haut finished 3-5, respectively, while Jacob Anteau was eighth and Kade Schumacher was 10th.

"That group is very competitive and any of the top five can be the No. 1 runner at the moment," Gardner said.

Meanwhile, Jamestown sophomore Meghan Ford won her fourth-consecutive race by 2 minutes, 22 seconds over Langdon-Edmore-Munich's Elise Ramberg.

"The time didn't compare to the last race in Aberdeen," Gardner said, about Ford's fifth-best time in the nation the last time out. "But that course was a little more flat compared to Grahams Island. The time between first and second is the biggest difference.

"I told her that the West Region and state meet are in Jamestown, where it'll be more hills. Running a good race at Parkhurst Recreation Area is where it matters."

As a team the Blue Jays finished third out of 11 with 95 points.

Jamestown travels to the Valley City Blue and White Invitational on Saturday at Bjornson Municipal Golf Course.

"I'm not quite sure which teams will be coming because that's the weekend when teams go out of state," Gardner said. "We'll see which teams step up depending on who's staying and leaving. We're also hoping to get Meghan some competition."
