Jamestown High School boys golf had its second-best finish of the year on Monday, May 20 at Links of North Dakota in Williston.

The Blue Jays shot a 345 during the Williston Invitational, good for fifth place on the afternoon. Jamestown shot a team-low 330 on May 11 at the Turtle Mountain Invite, which placed it fourth at the event.

"We played OK today," said Blue Jay coach John Samuelson. "Fifth place at the Links of North Dakota is a solid finish for us."

Jamestown's Hunter Mitchell rebounded on Monday with an 82, after shooting a 103 back on May 14 in Minot.

"Hunter's 82 was a great rebound from his day in Minot," the coach said. "I was really happy with his play and more so his confidence."

Eighth-grader Andrew Walz was right behind Mitchell with a 83 and nailed four birdies.

"Andrew played well today," Samuelson said. "He really left some shots on the course, but his four birdies really helped his round. He just needs to clean up some of his decision making and his rounds could be in the 70s."

Jed Truax was the other 80s round with an 87, while Oakley Peterson (93) and Bryan Mitchell (96) followed in the 90s.

"Jed played another mid-80s round and has been really consistent there," Samuelson said. "He is so close to shooting his personal best."

Jamestown has one more regular-season competition at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson on Friday, before playing for a top-six spot at WDA regionals at Garden Gates Golf Course in Dunseith on May 28.

"Overall we need to realize that this is still a team effort and that will be the way we qualify for the state tournament," Samuelson said. "When we all realize every stroke counts good things will happen."
