The University of Jamestown baseball and softball teams were both voted inside the top three in the 2020 Great Plains Athletic conference preseason coaches' polls released Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Jimmie baseball received one first-place vote and is second to Nebraska's Concordia University with 89 points. Jimmie softball also received one first-place vote and is third behind Morningside College (119 points) and Midland University (107) with 97 points.

Concordia baseball was the regular-season champion in the GPAC last spring with a league mark of 23-5 and an overall record of 33-20. Jamestown baseball won the GPAC tournament title after going 19-9 in conference play and posting an overall record of 35-18. Both Concordia and Jamestown advanced to the NAIA Baseball National Opening Round.

Morningside and Midland softball were the co-champions in the league last year with both teams going 18-4 in league play. Morningside won the conference tournament by taking two of three games from Jamestown in the best of three final.

Jimmie baseball went 5-1 in the spring and resumes play Feb. 22 in Joplin, Missouri. Jimmie softball opens play Feb. 14 with games at the Presentation College Dome Tournament in Aberdeen.
