Badlands Bowl ending run

After 27 years, the Knights of Columbus Badlands Bowl will no longer be a part of the summer football all-star circuit following 2020.

The annual contest has been made up of senior high school football all-stars from North Dakota and Montana, with almost 2,000 players having played in the game over the span of its existence.

The final contest will be played in Dickinson at the Biesiot Activities Center on June 20. North Dakota’s head coach during the 2020 game will be Bismarck’s Mark Gibson.

“The number of volunteers and work that has to go into it to make it happen is what it came down to,” said Dickinson State head football coach Pete Stanton, who is on the North Dakota committee for the event. “It was really tough to do it the way that everyone wanted to do it and sustain it as a top-class event. It was a situation where people were getting spread thin, and it was tough to get all of that done.”

Montana has dominated the series 20-6 over North Dakota, which includes a current five-game win streak. Montana beat North Dakota in the 2019 Badlands Bowl 41-14 in Miles City, Mont.
