Optimist Club's weekly athletes
Alex Goodrie, the Blue Jay wrestling team, Agatha Andrews and Braedon Knutson were named Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of The Week.
Goodrie, a Jamestown High School sophomore, has swum to four state swim meet qualifying times. Goodrie will swim the 50-yard freestyle, 200 free, 500 free and the 100 butterfly. The 2020 state meet is scheduled to be held at the Hurlburt Aquatics Center in West Fargo on March 5-6.
A 7-3 record has sent the Jamestown High School boys wrestling team to the Class A dual tournament for the first time since 2003. The Jays ended the regular season with a 48-25 win over WDA rival Bismarck Legacy last week. JHS clinched the No. 4 seed in the West. The 2020 season marks the first time the Blue Jays will compete in Fargo as a Western Dakota Association member.
Andrews, a sophomore on the Jimmie women's wrestling team from Akiak, Alaska, finished second in the 191-pound weight class at the WCNA Nationals in Marrietta, Georgia. Andrews pinned three consecutive opponents en route to the championship match.
Knutson, a freshman on the Jimmie men's indoor track team from Casselton, set a new record in the 300-meter run at the Bison Open. Knutson crossed the finish line at 36.45 seconds to claim eighth place. He also finished the 400 at 52.71 seconds and set a personal record in the 200 at 23.78.
JHS fifth in final poll
Jamestown High School is ranked fifth in the final Class A wrestling coaches' poll released Thursday.
Individually, the Jays' Aden Braun is ranked No. 2 at 113 pounds, Joel Bowman is No. 3 at 126, Colton Mewes is No. 3 at 138, Noah Braun is No. 4 at 152, Damien Krebs is No. 5 at 285, Johnny Browning is No. 6 and 170 and Coty Heubner is No. 6 at 182.

UJ softball set to start
The University of Jamestown softball team kicks off their season today (Friday) at the Presentation Dome in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Jimmies will face Presentation College at 10 a.m. and Valley City State at 2 p.m. On Saturday, UJ will take the field against Dakota State at 2 p.m. and Dickinson State at 4 p.m.
The Jimmies ended last season at 31-20 and 11-11 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
