Optimist Club’s weekly athletes

Sydney Fisher, Teddy Solensky, Kylee Voigt and Caylor Cox have been selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week.

Fisher, a freshman on the Blue Jays gymnastics team, scored career bests on bars, beam and in the all-around, helping lead JHS to victory in last week's home triangular.

Solensky, a freshman on the Blue Jay boys swimming and diving team, is qualified for the state meet in three of eight individual events.

Voigt, a senior on the Jimmie women's indoor track and field team from Jamestown, qualified for the NAIA National Indoor by winning the 400 meters in a time of 58.79 at the S. Johns/St. Bens Indoor in Collegeville, Minnesota. Voigt also paced the Jimmie 4x400 relay to first place (4:04.79).

Cox, a freshman on the Jimmies men's volleyball team from Helena, Montana, recorded a hitting percentage of .304 to go along with 11 kills, four aces and 10 digs to help the Jimmies to a 3-0 sweep of William Penn (Iowa).

Blue Jays hold at No. 3

Jamestown maintained its third-place ranking in the latest Class A boys basketball statewide media poll released Wednesday, Feb. 19.

The Blue Jays (16-2) rifled off victories over Bismarck Legacy, Watford City and fifth-ranked Minot (12-6) since last week's poll was released. Jamestown wraps up the regular season with road games at Williston (Friday) and Watford City (Saturday), before hosting Mandan on Tuesday.

Devils Lake girls basketball, sporting a perfect 19-0 record, leads Bismarck Legacy and Bismarck Century in the Class A girls poll.
