A Ryleigh Martin double-double and a solid fourth quarter propelled Medina/Pingree-Buchanan girls basketball to a 45-42 upset win over fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Carrington on Tuesday night in Pingree.

Martin, the Thunder's 5-foot-9 junior forward, produced 18 points and 13 rebounds, as MPB remained undefeated at 4-0. Carrington dropped to 6-1.

The home team outpaced the Cardinals 16-11 over the final eight minutes, with freshman guard Allison Thomas scoring five of her 11 points. The Thunder also went 3 of 4 at the foul line and received the team's only 3-point shot, converted by senior Brittney Reister, in the final frame.

Thomas also finished with four steals and three assists.

Carrington's Sydnie Grager produced a game-high 22 points. The Cardinals left 11 points at the foul line (8 of 19).

The Thunder host LaMoure/Litchville-Marion tomorrow (Jan. 7) in Pingree at 7:30 p.m., while Carrington travels to second-ranked Kindred on Friday.

Blue Jays ranked fifth

Blue Jays boys basketball is ranked fifth in the latest Class B media poll released Wednesday.

Jamestown High School (3-2) snapped a streak of two consecutive losses with a 13-point victory over Bismarck Century last Saturday. The Blue Jays were previously ranked No. 1.

West Fargo (4-0) remains on top receiving 13 of 18 first-place votes. Jamestown hosts Williston and Dickinson this Friday and Saturday.

UJ men ranked No. 8

The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team is ranked No. 8 in the NAIA preseason top 15 coaches' poll released Wednesday. The Jimmies are tentatively scheduled to open the season on Jan. 29 at a tournament hosted by top-ranked Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.
