Optimist Club honors athletes
Sierra Talmadge and Braden Neumann have been selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of The Week.
Talmadge, a junior on the University of Jamestown women's wrestling team from Bismarck, earned NAIA All-American honors by placing third at 170 pounds last Saturday at the NAIA national invitational hosted by UJ. The Jimmies finished seventh as a team.
Neumann, a junior on the University of Jamestown men's volleyball team from Costa Mesa, California, recorded a five-set school record of 22 digs in a 3-2 victory over Division II Limestone.
Mandatory umpires rules clinic
A mandatory umpires rules clinic for men's and women's softball umpires is set for this Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Buff.
Pro shop, range to open
Jamestown Parks and Recreation announces that the Hillcrest Pro Shop and the Driving Range will be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The golf course will open sometime next week. Any questions call the course 252-4320.

Mr. Basketball finalists
Finalists for the North Dakota Mr. Basketball Award were announced this week by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters association.
The finalists are as follows:
-- Carter Birrenkott, West Fargo: 23.3 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.7 spg, 1.0 bpg.
-- Nick Kupfer, Bismarck Legacy: 24.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.5 spg.

Oase named Miss Basketball
Hettinger/Scranton senior Sam Oase was selected North Dakota Miss Basketball as voted on by members of the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Oase, a 6-1 forward for the Night Hawks, has committed to continue her basketball career at Black Hills State University next season. She put up per-game averages of 20.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game for the 20-7 Night Hawks this season, leading the team to an eighth-place finish at the Class B state tournament last weekend in Minot.
Oase was selected to Class B's all-state first team as both a sophomore and junior.
Oase received eight first-place votes and 67 total points in a 5-3-1 voting system. Thompson's Mackenzie Hughes was second with six first-place votes and 67 points; Fargo Davies' Ryleigh Wacha was third with seven first-place votes and 35 points; Grand Forks Red River's Alex Page was fourth with four first-place votes and 38 points.
