Kat Miska kept rolling Wednesday for the University of Jamestown softball team, which found itself on the national radar earlier in the day.
Miska fanned 11 batters in UJ's 4-1 win over the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons in Moorhead. Miska improved to 9-1 on the season and has piled up 116 strikeouts in 11 total appearances for the 19-7 Jimmies.
Jamestown swept the two-game series with a 9-1 game 2 victory in five innings. The Jimmies were the 12th team receiving votes outside the top 25 in the latest NAIA softball coaches' top 25 poll released Wednesday.
The Jimmies were voted to finish third of 12 teams in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings by league coaches in the preseason. Jamestown (2-2 GPAC) continues conference play Saturday at College of Saint Mary (5-9, 0-0 GPAC) in Omaha, Nebraska, and is set to open its home schedule next Wednesday (March 31) hosting Valley City State (7-3) for two games at Trapper Field beginning at 3 p.m.
Valley City State was the 16th team receiving votes outside the top 25 in the latest national coaches poll.
Leading 1-0 Wednesday, the Jimmies backed Miska with a three-run fourth. UJ center fielder Mariah Wick delivered a bases-clearing double to left.
Katie Merchant was UJ's winning pitcher in game 2, striking out three. Kassi Ward, Sydney Prussia, Megan Neiles and Julia Byrne all posted a pair of hits, with catcher Neiles driving in three and third baseman Byrne driving in two.

DeMars recognized by WBCA
Jimmie women's basketball sophomore Hannah DeMars was named a 2021 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) honorable mention All-American on Tuesday.
DeMars averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Jimmies, who finished this season with a record of 15-11. She was a first-team Great Plains Athletic Conference selection and was second in the GPAC in points per game and fourth in rebounds per game.
Volleyball remains No. 1
Jimmie women's volleyball remains at No. 1 in the latest edition of the 2020-21 NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.
Jamestown (23-1) received 19 of 21 first-place votes and holds a 19-point lead in the voting over second-ranked Park, Missouri (19-1). UJ hosts Morningside in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament at 3 p.m. on April 3 at Harold Newman Arena.
