A buzzer-beating runner sank the University of Jamestown in their 69-67 loss to Concordia University. The Jimmies (4-4,1-3) struggled shooting the ball for the second consecutive game, shooting 20% from three point range. The Bulldogs (4-3,2-2) blew a late lead before the buzzer beater from Taysha Rushton.
The Jimmies opened the game flying with a steal by Noelle Josephson who found Macy Savela for a three to give the Jimmies the 3-0 lead with 9:27 to go in the first quarter. The Jimmies would take the lead back, 5-3 with 7:09 to go in the first thanks to a layup by Audrey Rodakowski. The Bulldogs put an end to the run with 4:24 to go thanks to a layup from Kayla Luebbe to make it 10-6 in favor of the Jimmies. Late in the first quarter, Savela hit another three to give the Jimmies the 17-12 lead going into the second quarter.
The Jimmies stretched their lead to ten thanks to a Josephson layup to give the Jimmies the 27-17 lead with 6:17 to go in the second quarter, drawing another timeout from the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs Mackenzie Toomey hit a three with 46 seconds left in the second quarter that sent the teams into the locker room with the score 36-30 in favor of the Jimmies.
The Jimmies took their first timeout of the second half after a three by Kendal Brigham brought it to a one point game with 3:17 to go in the third quarter. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game 46-45 with 57 seconds left to go in the third quarter, after Martinson fouled Sadie Powell who hit both at the line. Luebbe hit a layup at the buzzer to send the game into the fourth quarter with the hosts leading 48-45.
With 3:04 to go in the game, the Jimmies brought it back to a three point game when Hannah DeMars hit a layup to make the game 57-54. Josephson hit a layup and got fouled with 47 seconds to go that kept the Jimmies in the game with the deficit sitting at 64-62. With 10 seconds left, Rushton missed a free throw, Josephson got the rebound and found DeMars at the top of the key who hit the three to tie the game up at 67. At the buzzer, Rushton took the ball to the top of the elbow and hit the floater to walk the game off and give the Bulldogs the 69-67 win.
The Jimmies are back in action at 1 p.m. on Nov. 27 when they host Valley City State. The Bulldogs are back in action at 11 a.m. on Nov. 27 when they go to Wayland Baptist University.
