All-WDA girls and boys hockey teams announced

The 2020-21 All-WDA girls and boys hockey teams were announced Monday, February 22.

Ella Roaldson was named to her final All-WDA hockey team Monday.

Roaldson, a senior forward for the Jamestown High School girls hockey team, was one of two Blue Jays that earned 2020-21 All-WDA honors. Alexis Kirkeby was also named to the WDA team.

Between the five West Region teams, there were 15 athletes: nine forwards, four defensemen and two goalies named to the team. Mandan led all teams with six players named. Players were nominated and voted on by conference coaches. In addition, the region coach of the year was selected.

Roaldson was the Jays' lead-scoring for the past four seasons. The senior ended the regular season with 24 points between 17 goals and seven assists. Roaldson helped the Blue Jays qualify to their first state tournament since 2013. Kirkeby recorded 14 goals and four assists for 18 points.

The Blue Jay squad is slated to face off against Fargo North/South Tuesday in the opening round of the 2020-21 state hockey tournament.

Four Blue Jays named to All-WDA hockey team

Co-All-WDA Coach of the Year, Matt Stockert, had four of his Blue Jays named to the 2020-21 All-WDA team.

Jace Thompson and Nolan Nenow, the 2020-21 Jamestown High School boys hockey team's lead scorers, along with Hunter Nelson and Connor McLachlan were four of the 22 boys' hockey players who earned All-WDA honors. The Blue Jays missed the 2020-21 state hockey tournament due to a 3-2 loss in the second round of the WDA tournament.

Twelve forwards, seven defensemen and three goalies were selected with Minot High leading all teams with six players named. Bismarck Century and Jamestown each had four players selected. Stockert, the Jays' 16th-year head coach, was named Co-All WDA Coach of the Year along with Bismarck High's Wes Carr.
