Jamestown American Legion Post 14 baseball claimed a pair of wins over the Minot Metros Wednesday, July 17 in Minot. Post 14 (12-2) clinched the No. 1 seed at the Class A West Division tournament beginning July 23 in Minot.

It was the single Keegan Stenvold hit that sent Talon Hebert home and put the first points of the game on the board. An early 1-0 lead for the Metros meant the scoreless Jays had to step up and start swinging in order to claim the No. 1 seed.
They answered the call and bats started getting hot in the top of the fourth.
Tommy Falk hit a single to right field. Kohl Kratz and Max Anderson followed suit and the bases were soon loaded for Post 14. A double from Aaron Kleven emptied the bases and the Jays cruised to a 2-1 lead over the Metros.
Batting averages weren't the only thing going right for Post 14 Tuesday night.
Dawson Douty took the mound for Post 14 going seven innings totaling zero walks and six strikeouts. Douty's line also totaled only seven hits and one run. In game two, Falk toed the rubber for the Jays going all seven innings allowing five hits, two walks and two K's. Post 14's head coach Sam Joseph said he is proud of his team for sticking with Minot through all seven innings.
"Our pitching was very good today and we played great team defense as a whole," Joseph said. "We faced some solid pitching and our approaches at the plate were very consistent and put a lot of good at-bats together."
Metros 2, Post 14 9
It was all Post 14 the six innings of game two.
Tommy Falk started it out at the bottom of the first with a triple sending Chris Erickson home from first. Issac Mimong then sent a double to left field giving Post 14 their second score of the game as Max Anderson crossed the plate. Douty and Gage Orr were the third and fourth runs of game two for the Jays. The Metros couldn't seem to keep up as four more runs for Post 14 crossed the plate before the end of the third inning.
In the top of the fourth Minot's Bailey McCarty hit a double to center field sending Talon Hebert home and scoring the Metros first points of game two. McCarty scored Minot's second run of the game in the fourth cutting the lead to six but unfortunately for Minot, it was too little too late. Chris Erickson scored Post 14's ninth run of the game, clinching the No. 1 seed in the West Division and improving to 12-2.
Joseph said he is proud of his team for not only the wins but also for the dedication each member of the team has shown to the team as a whole.
"These guys do a great job putting extra work into their game on their own and it shows," Joseph said. "Their preparation and effort in games and practice is leading to a lot of individual and team success."
Joseph's first regular season as the Post 14 head coach has come to a close. Joseph said that coming out on top of the division is a testament to how hard the Post 14 roster has worked over the course of the season.
"It is a great accomplishment for these young men," Joseph said. "We have a lot more work to do to get ready for playoffs (but) I am looking forward to more great baseball and being around the fellas for a couple more weeks."
The Class A West Division tournament series will begin Tuesday, July, 23 and will conclude Saturday, July, 27 in Minot.
