The University of Jamestown baseball team made Monday's games at the Tucson Invitational much easier than Sunday's games.

The Jimmies swept a pair over Doane University 9-2 and 4-1, after winning two one-run ball games against Southwest Minnesota State and Doane the previous day.

"I was really pleased of how we grinded out a couple wins today," said Jamestown baseball coach Tom Hager. "We played a good baseball team and had guys contribute over 14 innings."

Jamestown was held scoreless for the first three innings but put up all nine runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Taichi Sasaki went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and 3 RBIs.

"He put a lot of balls in play and really jump-started our offense and the rest of the guys capitalized," Hager said of Sasaki.

The Jimmies scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings to secure a three-run victory in the second half of the doubleheader.

The pair of wins increased Jamestown's record to 17-1 on the year, with the only loss coming March 2 against Evangel University.

"We are really enjoying playing the game of baseball and we are trying to get better, while finding many ways to get wins," Hager said.

Jamestown will face Benedictine University at Mesa today.

"They're a quality ball club," Hager said. "It'll be a heck of a ball game tomorrow."
