Sport Shorts: Post 14 drops two in Omaha

Jamestown Post 14 American Legion baseball had a tough first day at the 2018 Battle of Omaha 19U Midweek tournament in Nebraska.

Post 14 dropped a pair of games with a 13-1 (5 innings) loss to Creighton Prep (Neb.) and a 7-3 defeat to Lockport Post 581 (Ill.)

Creighton scored seven runs during the first two innings of game 1 to end Drew Murray's pitching day for Jamestown after two frames. Max Anderson came in relief and allowed six more runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Jamestown's only run came in the first inning as Tommy Falk singled in Dawson Douty from second base. After Lockport took an early three-run lead in game 2, Anderson scored on a passed ball and Jeremy Williams' fielder's choice scored Chris Erickson to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth.

Lockport added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to pull away with the victory. Douty tossed five innings in game 2 and allowed one earned run on three hits. But five errors by Post 14 hampered Douty's day.

Jamestown will play Four Corners (Wis.) today during day 2 in Omaha.
