Optimist Club weekly athletes

Paul Vandal, Cole Rasmusson, Julia Johnson and Tyson Akers were named Optimist Club athletes of the week.

Vandal, a senior of the Jamestown High School wrestling team, defeated top-ranked, 220-pound wrestler Jacob Boehm of Mandan and placed first at the Lee Wolf Invite. Rasmusson, a JHS senior on the boys swimming and diving team, placed in the 200-yard freestyle and 500.

Johnson, a junior from Park River on the University of Jamestown women's track and field team, hit the NAIA automatic indoor qualifying mark in the triple jump (37-feet-9.25) at the Dakota Wesleyan Indoor in Mitchell, S.D. Akers, a freshman from Des Lac on the Jimmie men's track and field team, recorded a personal best in the 60-meter (7.11 seconds), long jump (20-8.25) and triple jump (41-2.5).

Jimmie Baseball Camp

The University of Jamestown baseball team will be hosting its 20th annual Jimmie Baseball Camp on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The camp will be held at the Larson Sports Center on campus. Camp for grades 7-12 will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., while camp for grades 1-6 will be held between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
