Jimmie baseball wins GPAC tournament title

The University of Jamestown baseball team won the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament championship this afternoon (May 7) in Yankton, S.D.

UJ starting pitcher Dru Fitz went the distance, as the Jimmies shutout Concordia University (Neb.) 3-0 at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

Fitz, a junior from Gresham, Ore., tossed 96 pitches over nine innings and retired the final 17 batters sent to the plate by the Bulldogs. Fitz (6-2) allowed four singles and didn't give up a walk, while striking out a pair.

The Jimmies (35-16) will find out Thursday (May 9) where they'll play in the 45-team NAIA Opening Round tournament.
