LaMoure/Litchville-Marion baseball opened the 2021 season Tuesday with a 12-2 victory over the South Border Mustangs at Townsend Field in LaMoure.

The Loboes scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, and put the Region 3 contest away with a six-run third. Sophomore Connor Johnson clubbed a double and drove in five runs for the Loboes during a 3-for-3 evening at the dish.

Tate Mart (1-for-1) and James Sandness (1-for-3) also doubled for the home team and accounted for multiple runs. Mart walked three times and stole five bases.

The Loboes are scheduled to play Midkota/Dakota Prairie/Lakota/GCC on Thursday in Tolna at 4 p.m. South Border hosts Carrington in Wishek on April 15 at 4 p.m.

Carrington splits opener

A seven-run fourth inning put up by the Patriots on Monday in Carrington lifted Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg to an 11-5 victory over the host team Cardinals to open the Class B baseball season.

Carrington's Lucas Hendrickson (2-for-3), Kael Kover and Grady Shipman all doubled, but the Cards only churned out four hits in total as they stranded eight runners on base.

Carrington went on to defeat Harvey/Wells County 10-8 later in the day.

The Cardinals (nine walks) and the Hornets (10) combined to work 19 walks in the game. Harvey/WC only connected four a pair of hits total, en route to scoring seven earned runs.

Carrington scored eight earned behind more extra-base pop. Hudson Schmitz and Ethan Buskness both homered in a four-run sixth, helping the Cards overcome a late 8-6 deficit.

Jacob Page, Hendrickson and Buskness (three RBIs) all doubled in the game. Schmitz pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to record the win, allowing just a single hit and striking out a pair.

Carrington's season continues Friday at New Rockford facing the Sheyenne-New Rockford Black Sox at 4 p.m.
