Peterson, Augustana off to nationals

Jamestown's Paige Peterson helped lead Augustana women's basketball past Winona State 64-45 Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the NSIC conference tournament championship game in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Peterson, a 6-foot-1 center and former N.D. Miss Basketball for the Blue Jays, scored 10 points on 5 of 7 from the field and grabbed six rebounds in the victory. The win guarantees the 10th-ranked Vikings (27-3) an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II national tournament.

The Vikings find out their NCAA tournament seed, opponent and location on Sunday, March 4, at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Carrington climbs in rankings

Carrington boys basketball's ascension up the state ranking continued in the final poll of the season released Wednesday, Feb. 28.

After being unranked two weeks ago and sitting in eighth last week, the District 5 champion Cardinals (19-2) will finish the rankings at No. 6. Hillsboro-Central Valley (20-1), the defending state champion, overtook the top spot from St. John (20-1), who were upset by Dunseith.

The Dragons (17-4) find themselves in a three-way tie for seventh with Grafton and Wyndmere-Lidgerwood.
