Jimmie athletes honored academically

University of Jamestown men's basketball players Sam Johnson, Christian Kvilvang and Jon Purintun were named 2018 Daktronics NAIA Division II Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced Monday.

University of Jamestown women's basketball players Jenna Doyle, Paige Emmel, Jory Mullen and McKayla Orr were also awarded the honor.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

Taz host folkstyle tourney

The Jamestown Taz hosted over 230 wrestlers for a folkstyle wrestling tournament held March 3 at Jamestown High School.

Placing first for the Taz were Mark Monson, Noah Lofberg, Aden Braun, AJ Matzke, Preston Gall and Sam Krebs.

Second-place finishers for the Taz were Grady Anderson, Dax Wick, Bo Nelson, Jaeger Roemmich, Edison Walters, Tyler Klabo, Taicen Martinson, Ben Matzke, Paul Vandal, Dalton Darby, Malakai Robinson, Jackson Walters and Tyler Magnasco.

Third-place finishers included Nickolas Hines, Caden Lanwe, Brecken Bitz, Gabriel Cole, Luke Schlepuetz, Gage Otto, Chase Traut, Haden Smith, Pete Rasmussen, Damien Krebs, Dusty Harr, Taylor Huebner, Dadley Knorr and Connor Martinson.

Finishing fourth for the Taz were Sam Schlepuetz, Karter Dickerman, Holden Syverson, Gavin Darby, Nathan Thornton and Nathan Presser.
